You should come first in the class. Sounds pretty familiar, isn’t it!...parents, relatives and friends keep reminding kids that coming first in the class is what they gotta focus on. Stop! think again, look around…how many smart guys do you have in your office who were first in the class? The answer totally depends on your profession (if you are an astrophysicists, probably all your friends are smart and everyone was first in their class…but the reality is that most of us are not astrophysicists J)…so, if you have an answer to that, you’ll know that coming first in the class isn’t really the game. There is a dearth of smart people and some of the smarty pants know that they were not smart, it is just that they evolved quickly.
It is an evolution guys! if you quickly evolve, you will be labeled smart. By the way, the fact is that it is great to come first in the class and the guys who come first in the class are usually smart, but their coming first in the class wasn’t their reason for their smartness. That said, I am not sure what you should be telling your kids, but I am sure you shouldn’t be telling your kids to focus on coming first in the class. Do your kid a favor, don’t pester him with “come first in the class” jazz.
